Mostly, this image started as a technical experiment on focus stacking. 41 images were captured with the same composition while my camera was mounted on a tripod. All images were exposed manually at f/5.6, each with a different focus point. The images were then merged into a single file by combining the sharpest in-focus portions of each image. The resulting image has a overall controlled focus that is noticeably sharper than a conventional image created by just adjusting the aperture for increased depth of field during a single exposure. I keep a human skull on my desk. It is most always within my gaze throughout the day. A constant reminder of my place in the world. By keeping death close by, I choose to rejoice in each living moment. Staring into the doorway of oblivion makes being anchored in the room of life, even if it’s only temporarily, that much sweeter.
